Weebly

The link below is to a Webquest that I created in Weebly for a previous SOSE assignment

This is a direct quote from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
“Although learning now occurs in online environments the principles around safe, secure and stimulating environments remain unchanged. When responding or supporting teachers or students in online spaces schools are advised to “take the technology out” of the issues and focus on the behaviours and expectations they would expect within any physical learning environment.”

“Regardless of whether they are online or offline, the safe and responsible use of digital technologies is always directly related to the values and behaviours of the students and teachers (Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, 2010).”

  1. Okay Michelle. I am going to play Devil's Advocate here. Because you have asked your students to research and present information. But I am unable to see a huge amount of transformation.
Where is your problem? Could it be that Premier Bligh is going to bulldoze the main street for a redevelopment and has allowed for three (only) buildings to be preserved. So students must justify their selection by considering not only the history, but the significance of the history of each building. Can you see how this enhances the thinking focus??
And how would you use ICT to scaffold the research, analysis process beyond what you have presented?

  2. Yes I can see how it enhances the learning focus. The focus question involves them researching the history and then their answer requires justification as to why.

With regards to the use of ICT’s it would have to be taken into account that there is little history to be found online about this topic (quite sad really) and most of it is above the reading level of a year 3 student.

I can now however see that there is opportunity for students to collaborate to make additions to a wiki regarding the history of specific buildings. This is very relevant and would be a worthwhile activity as:
    - it would also draw on students previous knowledge
    - allow everyone to learn from each other and
    - all students can make equal contributions

Following this the students can create a poster through Glogster to use as an objection to the demolitions. They would justify as to why the building/s should be preserved (included: text justifying why through drawing on the history + include images of the building/s found online or scanned from books etc).

Wow thank you for this reflection process and for stretching my ways of thinking. When I look back at when I did this assignment earlier in the year I can honestly say that the above activities would not have been something that I would have ever thought of.
Thank you for making me realise how far I have come. I am continuing to learn and develop my ways of thinking.
